After a bungled attempt to use Pinnacle Studio Delux to capture old sVhs tapes to DVD, I am back to learning the basics. My system:
AMD XP2400
Soyo KT333
2 x IBM 20 gig on Highpoint Raid 0 (Onboard Raid)
768 DDR 2100
60 gig Seagate on IDE Sec Master (video storage)
Asus V8420D (Ti4200)
Plextor PX-708A

After uninstalling the Pinnacle software/hardware, I use Reg Supreme to clean up any details.

Uninstalled video card, WDM capture driver and rebooted. Reinstalled nVidia 5.2.1.6 drivers and WDM 1.22 drivers.

When I try to capture AVI in Virtual Dub, this error message pops up. After clicking OK it finds a driver and continuies. I can not capture with the set up with out dropping lots frames.

ERROR 418: Capture driver is not installed properly.
Cannot connect to the desired capture driver.

I check the hard drive capture rate and it passes at 720x480x24.

What kind of options for getting up and capturing? The Pinnacle goes back to Best Buy tomorrow. I have an sVhs VCR I am trying to capture from. i intend to burn DVD's and would like to preserve what good that is on the tapes. The tapes are 13 years old and have some occasional glitches in them. The bulk of the video is very good quality.
