The Media-Tek chipset seems to dominate low end DVD players. There seems to be a defect in the way it handles episode DVD's. My Cyberhome 402 would occasionally display the problem. When you start an episode from the menu it would stumble and the audio would go out of synch. My 402 died on me,after only six months, and at $50. it's not worth repairing.
I bought a Daewoo DVG-5200S to replace it,but it also uses the Media-Tek chipset and seems to suffer from this problem even worse with 50% of episodes diplaying this problem. Too bad because the Daewoo is a very nice DVD player. Are other people suffering this problem?

  2. what on earth makes you think its the chip set? Most people would balme the media, the encoder anything but the chip set. How do you know which chip set is in your player? WHY would it be the chip set. Surely the problem is just mutiple movies/epsiodes on one disc.. sound like the normal problems or the navigation software.

They play normally on my Sampo and Toshiba players and computer. I know it's a Media-Tek chipset because I took the cabinet off.
I also tested two other players with the Media-Tek chipset and they displayed the same problem,I think 4 out 4 is a trend. Unfortunely you can't tell what chipset is used until you get it home and open it up.
