    Hey there,

    This question has been asked on several occasions and i am still in need of a definate answer if there is any!

    The issue is with resizing with CCE.

    I understand that VDUB is used as frameserver and that you need to use the resize filter in VDUB to acheive this.

    However the question is what is the equation or rule to use when calculating the width and height ???

    for example for the DivX movies with dimensions of 512x288 or 640x272 or 528x320 what would be the resize dimensions in VDUB ???

    OK NOW TELL ME HOW YOU DERIVED IT OR WAS IT JUST A GUESS

    Regards,
    hTK

  2. the height dimensions should be 240NTSC/288PAL or 480NTSC/576PAL for use with a standalone, cause the width is stretched by the player depending on the aspect ratio you checked!!! otherwise it's not important to have certain resolution as long as you choose the right aspect in cce.

    if you want to calculate just remember this:
    4:3 ---> 4:3=x:240(NTSC) or 4:3=x:576(PAL) e.g.
    or
    16:9---> 16:9=x:240(NTSC) or 16:9=x:576(PAL) e.g.

    This is partly correct. Since I guess the divx movies are cropped, so you can not resize from 640x272 to 480x576.
    640x272 is probably a 1:2,35 widescreen movie (borders are cropped completely). To keep this ratio you have to resize to 480x306, then expand frame and letterbox image: 480x576.
    640/272=2,35
    x/272=720/640-->x=306
    720/306=2,35

    I don't have the definitiv answer and I don't know a perfect resize calculation tool.
    So if I have a source with such odd resolution, I use the preview to figure out the proper ratio.

    Thanks for the responses

    Would you recommend another program that does the same function a lot easier for example. TMPGenc ???

    yes, TMPG. VirtualDub's resize filter may be more accurate and produce a sharper image, but this isn't too important, if the source is DivX. TMPG is the better encoder for DivX->(S)VCD conversions anyway. If you have a DivX without borders, just chose video arrange method "center(custom size)", set width and heigth at the advanced tab.
    At the video tab set 4:3 aspect ratio.

  6. If you really want to keep the aspect ratio of the DiVX (this can be different from original), you must not resize, with a resize you are changing the aspect ratio, if you do not resize horizontal/vertical the same percentage.

    You only have to add black bars on top and bottom till you get a 4:3 ratio, if you want a 4:3
    So if your DiVX is 640x272 add a black bar of 104 on the top and a black bar of 104 at the bottom and you have a 640x480 movie (4:3), which you can frameserve to TMPGenc or CCE.

    Thanks again for the replies.

    I think i am finally happy with the following outcome.

    I save the .WAV from the DivX via VirtualDUB.

    I then use TMPGenc and the corresponding PAL or NTSC templates then save the Project file. I then use the VFAPI proggy and save the Frameserved AVI.

    Then load this into CCE and set my settings and Encode... it works like a dream .... then i use NormalizeGUI program to Normalize my .WAV file, then Azid Proggy to encode my .WAV audio stream to .MP3 via LameEncoder (very nice quality and many options).

    Then just mux it together with TMPGenc.... VOILAAAAAAA

    This works for me and the speed is phenomenal with CCE.
