  1. i have downloaded a movie, and i got subtitles for it in .srt form, with vlc i can just use the subtitles as well as the movie by selecting the right option in the open file menu.

my question is how can i to burn this movie to a dvd-r and try to play it in my dvd player (Sony dvp-ns63p) with the subtitles?

if i need to like re-encode or re-author or wtvr to get the subs working then how long would it take, and also im planning on converting the movie to DivX format as it is currently XviD so will this cause any problems with the subs?

btw i have looked through the other topics but they seemed to confuse me, i was just wondering if someone could clear things up for me

also i was wondering wether i would need to convert to DivX to play the Xvix on my dvd-player

    any help is greatly appreciated

Your player should play the AVI as is, and to get subtitles, just name it the same as the movie, so you have movie.avi and movie.srt "side by side" on the disk.
If your player is silly enough to reject the XviD, try the fourcc changer to patch it to DIVX (DivX and XviD are so similar, that there's no reason for a player to play one but not the other).
If all else fails, run it thru AviReComp, but just as a last measure, as this will reencode, and lower the quality.

I've never seen a standalone DVD player reject Xvid just for being Xvid instead of Divx. However, the following options may or may not (depends on the decoding chip your DVD player is using to read Divx/Xvid) prevent playback. People who encode with Xvid are for some reason a lot more likely to use these.
    1) GMC (Global Motion Compensation)
    2) QPel (Quarter Pixel)
    3) Packed bitstream
    4) Resolutions greater than 720x576
    5) Video bit rates greater than 2000 Kbps may cause various playback problems including the video not playing at all and the video playing but the audio not playing correctly.
