    Hi all,

I have a .avi file, which is corrupt. The reason it is corrupt is because I connected the firewire enclosure to my notebook and W2K checked for its consistency and automatically repaired all the files. Many of the files in the HD are corrupt due to the repair including this .avi file, which recorded my family's precious moments. :*(

So, do you have any suggestion for how I can repair this corrupt .avi file? I tried "video fixer 3.23" or something but it said that the file was not a .avi file and could not repair it. The file is a . avi file that I transferred from my miniDV through Firewire and converted to .avi using Adobe Premiere 6.5.

    Thank you very much.

    Regards,
    FLD

    FYI,

All the programs I have tried so far say the the file is not a .avi file. I think something must be corrupt inside the file. It is a .avi file.

Why not recapture the file again?

I have re-recorded on the tape already. My mistake, though.

Create or get a known good avi file of the type you have that is corrupt. Start virtualdub. Do "Tools-Hex Editor-File open". Get all the information of this file. Then do the same with your bad avi file. Make sure you uncheck the read only when you open up your bad avi file. Change the appropriate hex data of your bad avi file. I had a similar problem with a corrupt avi file and this worked for me.
