  1. I was reading some of the conversion guides...they look a bit complicated. I have never done this before, and I was then wondering if Nero 6 can be used for coverting files as well as burning. I have a feeling this is a bit simpler to use.

Anybody know ? What do people on here use for the process of making a dvd-r og svcd film ? Need som experienced help.

How long does the process take from start to finished product

  2. Nero can do the encoding for you in most cases but it doesn't do a very good job of it. the reason for all the guides for other tools is that they give a lot better quality and less problems than Nero.

  3. ok, thanks... So what is the program of choice then? This TMPGEnc that I hear alot about?
How long does it take from you start converting, till the finished product is burned and ready for viewing ??

  4. TMPGEnc plus and CCE are the two top encoders in a good pricerange. Canopus Procoder is also a very good one, but more expensive I believe. I use TMPGEnc myself, and haven't tried CCE yet. I hear CCE is faster at encoding though. If you are doing DVD I'd suggest getting the TMPGEnc Plus & TMPGEnc DVD Author package. both programs are excellent and together they can be bought for $99. there is a trial version of both available.

as for speed there are so many factors that can effect that. how fast your computer is and your system resources along with what options you choose to encode under in the program. I did a set of SVCD from DVD last night and the encoding took about 2.5 hours with TMPGEnc. thats on a PC with a 2.6Ghz P4 and 512MB of RAM with a 7200RPM HD. encoding can go anywhere from around an hour to more than a day depending on your setup.
