  1. I have created a 2 disc svcd with dvd2svcd using tmpgenc for encoding. In the bitrate section I chose to fit the movie onto 2 80 minute cdr's.
After the entire process was finished, I discovered that the second image file was too big too fit onto my cdr. It was 827MB.
Does anyone know why the svcd creation went wrong? I double checked the bitrate tab and everything is in order there. I don't understand why it made the second cd so big. I even changed the setting to make it use 2 74 minute cdr's, the result was the same, only this time the second image was 826MB, so it still wouldn't even fit on an 80 minute cd.
    Very frustrating problem.
    Thanks in advance.

  2. did you specify 48khz sound rather than 44.1 ? also I think subtitles will take up space. remember you can get at least 800mb on an 80 cdr try burning it anyway with overburn/ expert features/nero 5.5.10
Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.
The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.

  3. How will the sound make a difference? Does 48kHz take less space than 44?
I overburn sometimes, but I think 27MB is a little too much this time.

  4. I have tried again, this time I did not choose to rip subtitles. I already choose 44.1 audio so I left that how it was. I still made an image 825MB. What part of "try to fit on 2 80min cds" doesn't it understand???
I think I'll look for a better program.

Are you using the BIN/CUE default setting? I have created over a hundred SVCD's with DVD2SVCD with no problems. I have 3 of them on the hard drive right now and they all average 825MB per video/bin file. If you use the default VCDXBuild to create BIN/CUE files, they will fit on a regular 80 minute disk, no overburn. I use Nero, selecting 'Burn Image', select the CUE file from the video folder and burn it. Other programs that burn image files will work also. Works every time. For DVD2SVCD I use the default settings, only selecting ripping and changing the bitrate to 800MB disks.

Edit: Sorry, I see from rereading your post you are using BIN files. The biggest BIN file I have is a little over 825MB, which burns OK. I would assume a 827MB would also using the 'Image' setting.

    Good luck! :P

An audio sample rate of 48khz will take up more space than 44.1 - as it means for every second of audio, there will be more samples (more data).

Did you just assume that the images are too big, or did you try burning them?

I always use a bitrate calculator as well as the bitrate functions on DVD2SVCD to make sure the bitrate is going to be optimal. Remember with VBR, neither TMPGEnc nor CCE will give absolutely accurate average bitrates etc.. so it's better to err slightly on the side of caution.

  7. Thanks for your help and suggestions.

I have successfully written the svcd to disc.
As bin and cue files originally were associated with Cdrwin, I decided to try to burn them with Cdrwin.
    It worked without any problem.
Previously I was mounting the images with Daemon tools and then performing a straight disc copy with either Nero or Clonecd. So I'm not sure if that method was causing the problem, funny thing is that I have made about 20 successfully this way.
In future I think to save time and trouble I will simply write the created svcd images with Cdrwin.

I've never had DVD2SVCD let me down. Pretty much flawless operation.

You don't need to make it that complicated.

Just open Nero, then close all the wizards etc.. go to File->Burn Image, then navigate to the .cue file that DVD2SVCD has produced.

Anyway, glad to hear that you've got it sorted.

    cheers,

  11. Why would (s)he want to try overburning of (s)he's got the image to fit on a disc without it now?

    Just curious
