  1. Hi. Just want to find out if my Pioneer DVDR 106D (1.07) supports the DVD+RW Real Time Video (+VR) Format or not ?

    Using Nero Vision Express 2 I cannot find +VR option for making DVD Video.

  2. I could be wrong, but my understanding is that only the standalone DVD+RW Recorders record in DVD+VR mode. You could then take the DVD+R/RW disc recorded on the standalone and edit it on your PC using any of the DVD+VR capable softwares.

    Moments later...

    After reading the product brochure, here's what I found:

    DVD-Video (VR) For DVD+R/+RW
    * Create new DVD+VR
    * Import DVD+VR, edit titles and menus
    * Change menu and add more titles after recording on DVD+R/+RW
    * Delete, trim, split, change chapters on DVD+RW
    * Disc recording with realtime MPEG-2 encoder

    So it looks like you need a realtime MPEG2 encoder in order to record in DVD+VR mode or you must have a DVD+R/RW disc that is recorded in the DVD+VR mode for you to edit. And it's not whether your burner supports DVD+VR (data is data no matter which recording mode you choose), it's whether your software/hardware supports it.

  3. Thanks for your answer Gil, so far I've not seen any info about 106D and DVD+VR, on the other hand the new Plextor x8 multi DVD writer it says that it handles DVD+VR (both write and read) and even DVD-VR (only read !!!). This makes me confused and I'm not 100% sure if the DVD+VR issue is only dependent on compliant software and a DVD+WR or compliant software and a DVD+WR with +VR capability.

    I cannot test your idea about real time MPEG encoder because I do not have one at the moment, but I think my computer is fast enough to encode MPEG2 in real time with soft encoder. When I capture via RGB in on my Gainward graphics card with VI-VO functionality it seems that the MPEG2 file created on HD is complete the moment I finish recording. I use PAL, 576x720 25f/s, VBS 7000, MPEG2 Stereo Audio, I use either Ulead DVD Workshop or PowerVCR II, v3.0. In the future I'll invest in a stand alone DVD recorder and therefor I'd like to use the DVD+VR format from now on.
