Yeah, like 23 miles per pound.

Have any of you youngsters ever looked into the Atkins Diet?

Even the mainstream diet doctors are getting around to seeing the light

Meat is what the human body, and the human dentition was designed for.

Guys at work who have listened to me have gone to a meat diet and lost 40 to 50 pounds, and not the fat slobs, but the ones who were just too bulky. And none of them complain about the blah cottage cheese-veggie diet

Hey, they're eating a g'damned steak. How the hell can you say "I'm tired of this boring diet" when it's steak or roast beef, or even chicken, fat, skin and all.

And not a 4 ounce serving, but 3/4 to a pound of good beef.

And, best of all, is that when the doubters say we'll just blow this away, the meat eaters reduce their total cholesterol, their HDLs,the "good" cholesterol goes up, the "bad" cholesterol goes down, and they shake their heads and say "This goes against everything we have taught for the last 50 years."

We are not designed to eat tofu and grass. Those pointy teeth are to tear off a chunk of meat, and, in my case, while the cow is still kickin', the redder the better.

Try it, you might like it. And if you keep off the Twinkies, you'll lose that "baby fat", or love handles, or just that all over fat slob feeling..

    Obesity is "widespread".

Cheers, if you'll try a steak, spears, if you feel meat is wrong. Stay fat. I'm a member of PETA, too. People Eating Tasty Animals.

I honestly considered trying it, but I'm scared of the effect an all Meat diet would have on my heart, it can't be good.

My mother became seriously ill on the Atkins diet. It is potentially dangerous for some people. That said, I'd discuss any diet with your doctor first.

Even a little exercise goes a long way. There are things you can do right from your own cosy couch, even while watching TV, that can burn calories.

Soon you won't even mind the walk from the couch to the fridge. :c)

  9. there is no surefire easy-peasy way of losing weight, mol3000. Try doing sitdown calistenics. walking is a much underrated form of exercise.
those two things with the feet attached? get em working.

I've just started on a weight loss / fitness quest, and I think the big key here (for me, at least) is I'm not dieting, I'm trying to break bad habits about not exercising, and eating too much crap food.

So if I sit in front of the dvd player, I'm on a recumbent bike (actually, this serves two purposes - I get exercise, and I've been steadily working through all the discs I've borrowed or bought and "haven't gotten around to watching"). And I've stopped buying chips, ice cream or soda, so they aren't in the house anymore, even if I wanted to eat them - I'd have to go out and buy them, which cuts down on the "boredom" eating that I've been guilty of.

diets work until you hit your target weight... then what? If your goal is "I want to change my eating habits and eat healthier, and exercise regularly", you will be in a healthier state.

If your goal is "I want to lose 50 pounds", you'll lose it, then gain it back - you haven't done anything to address the reason you were 50lbs too heavy in the first place.

You might try putting your "couch potato" physique to good use. I've heard that watching "porn" can raise your heartbeat! Three 20 minute sessions a week (more, if you are really "gung ho" about loosing weight) should be enough "heart-rate-raising" activity for you!

If all you want to do, is speed up your motabalizim, then eat 5 - 6 small meals a day instead of 1 - 3 big meals.

If you really want to speed up your motabalizim and get in shape, then there is only one answer. Excercize!!!

I'm 42 years old and still have a 30 inch waist. I work out reguarly with wieghts. I'm in better shape now than I was at 22. I'm also much stronger.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........

Evonne and myself have started doing situps. No real reason, just to keep in shape. We set a number and everyday do that many. We started off lost, at 20. After only 3 days we've moved it up to 40. I say just start to excercise. Then keep to it. Find a partner to keep you going, whatever it takes.

  17. My recommendation: Exercise.

My brother and I have just started up going for a walk every day (or so) and doing some weights.

Plus its lots better than having to give up food.

  18. Diet AND exercise.
I lost almost 90 pounds in the last two years. Eating a balanced diet with meat vegetables, and fruit.
This past June, I joined the local fitness club and so far have put on about 20 pounds back on. About half of that is pure muscle (and 10 fat, looks like I'm gonna have to start watching what I eat again)
The thing about exercise is after an hour of working out, you are ready to stuff your face!
I couldn't do Adkins, after a few days, developed serious dirrahreha that wouldn't go away.
Just what is this reality thing anyway?

  22. You risk renal failure with the Atkins diet.

    I advice exercise.

Furthermore, it isn't necessarily your weight / BMI that is the health risk, it is your fitness. Thin unfit individuals have just about the same cardiovascular risk as fat unfit individuals. The correlation between weight and increase morbidity and mortaility is mostly as you are much more likely to be UNFIT if you are fat.

If you are actually concerned about your health, the key is exercise.

Just curious, how does stones translate into pounds and kilo's?
    Isn't a stone something like 12 pounds or 27 kilo's

LOL :cD Like "I love you. A bushel and a peck. A bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck"? My grandmother used to sing that to us. Always wondered.

Thanks for looking up pounds/stones. :c) I was being ultra lazy.

So now - I am like 8 stone & change but......... only wear a size 5 1/2 shoe! :cD

Down with the metric system. They tried to implement it over here in the 70's. And we said "Get that crap outta here!"
