Good luck,
Every time I try 90 situps it's followed by 10 minutes of stationary deep breathing, well, actually, laying there gasping for breath![]()

The key thing is to start out a little bit and work your way into it.
Don't try to give up everything all at once - just cut your intake down and try a variety of veggies and/or ways to prepare 'em and eat something like that if you're having a hunger attack.
I'm no expert on the subject...but I really don't find myself craving sweets or junk foods these days. I actually like the stuff that's good for ya 8) -
Day four and feeling my stomach pull but hell, it's a great feeling knowing it's working.
I had my gym assesment last night, I did 45 mins cardio and 12 laps of a (big) pool and felt great afterwards.
I'm back there Wed for part two of my assesment (weights) amd will do another swim.
I told the instructor about my sit-ups and he said great, but i really should burn the fat before I do too much on the stomach.
I've been totally niave really.
He had me do twenty mins on the running machine and I didn't run once.
I couldn't understand it.
Had I been on my own I'd have done one min slow warming and ten minutes running like an idiot.
However, the instructor was excellent and explained the metabolism and heart rate stuff and everything became clear(-ish!).
I was doing a pretty steep, quick, hill walk and averaged about 120bpm over 20 mins and whilst didn't struggle felt good, felt like I was burning last weeks pizza!
As I say, day four, been eating well, no snacking, exercising each day and plan to go to the gym/swim three times a week with maybe a small ten minute workout the days I don't go.
Feeling pretty proud of myself actually
I'm 173lb but can't get into a 34" trouser
I want to lose at least 14lbs and lose 2" on the trousers, I have two new suits I can't wear until then

Will,
Remember the comedy forum suggestion
The quote above was a joke.
I don't exercise. I DO have a fairly strenous job, climb up 60 feet to each crane I have to work on,several times a day, have, even, a 100 foot climb to the parking lot after work.
Re: exercise, I feel "No pain, no pain".
I think partly it's good "motabolism",partly genetics, but I have never been able to gain weight. 5' 10" 150 pounds. Last about 3 days in a famine.
The job can't be it. I work with some really fat people, doing the same as I do.
I shouldn't even be giving advice. If you haven't suffered the agony of trying to keep your weight within a range, how can you tell someone to try this diet or that. I do eat a lot of meat, and don't eat a lot of anything else except salad, but really, really love a good loaf of good bread.
Eat half a loaf of ciabatta at a sitting, still doesn't turn to fat, or muscle.
And, anyone checks the post times here, will see that I am pretty damn sedentary at home, also. Sit here a LONG time reading and making a ssnide remark ot 2 all evening.
Gotta knock on some wood.
Cheers and good luck,

Question about breakfast.
I don't normally eat anything on a morning until about 9:30 am (assuming I'm up, as usual, at 7am).
I understand breakfast is important, I just don't know why.
I have a job where I sit on my arse all day, so am I right in thinking by eating breakfast (it used to be two paks of crisps and is now fruit and maybe a low-fat yogurt) within say an hour or so of getting up I'll be speeding up my metabolism, and therefore helping to burn calories whilst I'm sat on my arse?
I know nothing beats excersise but it's hard to while I'm at my desk.
So, should I try eat some breakfast (fruit) within an hour or so regardless of whether I'm hungry or not?
I leave for work at 7:50am and can't eat before then, it'd have to be at work, I'm just not hungry enough before I leave the house.

Anytime I eat before 9:00am I feel sick about a hour later. I haven't eaten breakfast in years. But I do have a kinda brunch meal everyday.

Here's what turned up doing a quick search -

apparently, it'll lead to problems down the road, so...you gotta find someway to adjust -
Here's one that maybe our medically trained members will laugh at, but, years ago, an old New England country MD advised a tablespoon of genuine Apple Cider Vinegar in a glasss of water as a drink to "speed up the metabolism".
He, and many of his supporters, not financially connected with him, swore to its efficacy.
Anectdotally, my own mother, in her 60s at the time, began using it, as well as grapefruit juice, and when I went to visit her one day, ( she was rather plump: so much for genetics), she gathered the extra material at the sides of her dress, a bit proud of herself, and asked me if I noticed that she was losing weight. Of course I did!!
She did not have any of the "wasting" diseases, so it was not that. And, at her age, eating was one of her greatest pleasures, so she was not starving herself. It seems it could be nothing but the vinegar-water tonic she was taking.
Before you so "Oh, vinegar!!", let me assure you that you will not get lock jaw from such a diluted drink.
Hey, if it helped any of you "chubby" young'uns, what the hell would you care if the medicos saidd it was an old wive's tale.
She was an old wife, widow, actually, for whom it worked.
Try it or not, up to you. Probably take a month or so to see any results, but at least you wouldn't have to starve yourselves.
Cheers,
George
BTW,his name was Dr. Jarvis, can't remember his given name. Do a search.
