  1. I've just done some simple editing in Vdub and saved the AVI file. Once with its default setting and another with the Huffy codec.

The quality is poor compared to the original DV AVI file.

    What should I change?

Can someone recommend a very simple/ quick editor for removing DV AVI "junk" footage without the quality loss.

are you using 'direct stream copy' - output should be exactly the same as the input.

Yep, I made the same mistake when starting out. If you are just doing simple cuts like trimming the beginning and end, removing commercials, etc. use the direct stream copy which keeps it as AVI. That way it doesn't have to decode and re-encode with the resulting loss.

  4. Thanks for the help, the quality is spot on.

However! The file stutters after Vdub saves it. I've viewed it in Media Player Classic and Windows Media player.

The same file rendered in Vegas has no problems.

  5. Is direct stream copy the same as frame serving?
