  1. ok, I have encoded me myself and irene with vbr 2pass avarage bitrate 1900. It is bad quality in action scenes. How do I make that better? Do I have to raise bitrate in order to get that fixed? Then I have to put the movie on 3 discs and I don't really want that. Please got any ide's?

  2. Try constant quality instead of 2pass.
I tried, the same movie was better with constant quality than 2pass. Maybe is a bug!
You can also try to find the 12a version that should give a better mpg2 compression

  3. Does 12a give better mpeg-2 compression? wow, ill have to try that for myself. There are many factors that affect block noise in motion scenes. 2 pass VBR should make it better! because the movie is checked and then encoded. Try checking the Soften block noise option in the quantize matrix tab, try changing your GOP headr to 1,1,1 (IBPB) and make sure you are using high quality motion search precision. This should improve your motion scene quality noticeably.

If you have to use a average of 1900 to fit on 2 cd's, set the max bitrate higher(I don't know what you used). The max bitrate you can use depends on your dvd player. But on almost all players 2600 will work. Maybe you can lower the bitrate of the sound a little.
You can also try CCE with more passes, the quality will improve.
