Im Backing up a dvd.
Should I use dvd decrypter to put it to the harddrive first?
Or is it okay just to let dvd shrink decrypt it while backing it up to my harddrive.
Thanks![]()

Either way is fine.
The only issue is that 'shrinking' can take from 1 to several hours, so during this time the DVD drive is 'working'.
Ripping to the hard disk first then shrinking off the HD will save a bit of wear-and-tear on the DVD drive.
Working from the HD can also shorten the skrinking time (even more so if you use multiple drives). -
Even with "deep analysis", DVDShrink ripping and transcoding has never taken me longer than 60 minutes(usually it's 40-50 min).
Either way if you need to shrink the original down, it's going to be on you hard drive anyway. I only use DVD Decrypter when the ripper in DVD Shrink seems to be having issues. -
The shrinking time will of course depend on the size of your CPU.
(Wish I had a 3.2ghz)

I have an Athlon XP 2400+ (2.0 GHz) and it's never taken me longer than 32 min to shrink- and that was an 8.2 GB DVD keeping all the menus and extras.

i have a P3-933 and it takes me...45-55 mins to analyse
and 25-35 mins to shrink
but i love the fact that i just walk away to play with my kids, cook dinner, watch a DVD
, and Shrink shut off my system when it is done.
