poioneer dvr-106 "no 4x for u"

I recently bought this model and everything works great except it refuses to write at 4x. I have tried a few dif progies and dif media yadayada.....and no luck in every compilation i do it says it burning at 4x and states it'll be done in 15 mins but eventually it juts takes roughly 28 mins.....i would rather not upgrade my firmware as i c many people having even more problems when doing so. Is their any possible fix for this without firmware upgrading???

What media are you using ? You might have bought different brands only for it to have been made by the same manufacturer...

I suggest getting hold of something like DVDinfo Pro and checking the media ID's.

I had this same exact problem until I upgraded my Windows operation system from ME to XP.
