Ready for an Oddyssey??? here we go
Ordered a PC from a PC Maker that has a Plextor PX-W4012A that came preloaded with Roxio 5 Basic. I uninstalled that since it does nothing more than burn copies, make music/data CDs, or formats RWs. Used a special program from Roxio called Roxio Zap to get rid of some little pieces the uninstall leaves behind. Installed Roxio 6 Platinum so I could do everything and it worked for awhile. Now it doesn't work. Tried uninstall and reinstall and nothing. here are the errors I get.
E80041871: Recorder error - cannot seek to the requested location - [03/02/00]
E8004189f: Write error - recovery needed - [03/0C/07]
E80041925: TrackWriter error - Command retry failed - [T7118]
Common thinking says the drive right??? Well, the PC Maker partitioned the HD so that there is a factory restore that reformats the whole PC to the way it came from factory. After doing this, the burner works again. I have tried everything I can think of to correct it. There's a conflit somewhere, but I cannot figure out what. Only thing I can think of is conflict between softwares that have burning software built in. The only problem with that is that nearly everything has some kind of burning software from my media player (MusicMatch JukeBox), to my TV Capture software (Pinnacle 8), to audio editing software (Soundforge)
Help. Help, Help. Can't figure it out...any ideas??
One of my "Smart" friends told me just to stick with Roxio 5 Basic, but then I can't do DVDs, VCDs, ISOs, etc...

it wouldn't matter what burn program I use, it won't bun period...like I said, conventional thinking would be a drive problem, but like I said, if I use the factory restore, then it works fine. problem with the Factory restore is that it only has Roxio 5 Basic, so it has limited functionality. If I leave that there, it'll work. If I uninstall it and install anything else, I get those errors

Maybe there's an update or something you need for 6. If it works with 5 then it will work with 6. Could also uninstall Roxio 5 and 6. Go into your registry (REGEDIT from RUN) and delete all the Roxio keys, reboot then try re-installing it. Forget that Zap program. Regardless of that problem if it were me I'd restore back so you can burn again, copy all my stuff to disc or another hard drive then do a low level format and get rid of all that SH!T from the PC Maker or whatever it's called. Then reload windows when that's done if you really want to be able to restore your computer just use windows own restore program or even Norton has one. It's in System works, "GoBack" I think. The rental place I used to work at had a program called FoxPro and it did the same thing. Put in a disk and *poof* 2 hours later the computer was back to the original settings. Even more jacked up than the 1st time. :P
