  1. There may have been a post already, but I just wanted all you Sony fans, like myself, to know that Sony has released a firmware upgrade 2.0g. Its adds several new features, but the best feature is the fix to burn all 4X rated media at 4X. Thsi should have worked with the last upgrade, but I am glad it works now. I just tried some Ritek G04's and they actually burned in 15 minutes...kudos to Sony:

  2. Quote from how to install firmware upgrade:
If you are installing The Intel® Application Accelerator (Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver) in your computer, uninstall Intel Application Accelerator from the PC before executing firmware update. *Intel Application Accelerator (Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver) may be pre-installed in some computers manufactured by Dell Computer.

Before executing firmware update, uninstall any packet writing software, such as [DLA], [DirectCD], [B's CLiP] etc, from the PC.

If you are using the DRU-500A, disable [DMA setting] in Windows before executing firmware update. For details, refer to [Help and Support] in Windows.
Did you follow the above procedure? I'm concerned about the third one. Do I really have to disable DMA? Do I disable it for all drives? Do I enable it again after the upgrade?
