  1. I seem to have trouble burning DVDS when they are in Vob files. I trow vob files on a new dvd in nero and everything burns fine, but for some reason sometimes when I run the DVD I get an error from my dvd player. I know the dvd is working because I run the dvd from HDD with Power DVD. Is there anyone around this? It seems to be a very serious issue with me that I can't get past. Can anyone help?

DVD players need a specific group of files, placed on the DVD in a specific way. You cannot just burn the VOB's onto a disk and expect success.

It would have been helpful if you had explained what you used to rip with, and what yer burning software is, but I'll lay out how *I* do it in general terms for u. If u need more detailed info...just lemme know.

This is how I backup a *movie only* off a store bought DVD.

    1) Rip the DVD with DVD Decrypter (Free) in IFO mode onto the HD. What you end up with is a group of files including VOB files. Tho logic would dictate that u should be able to just burn these files onto a DVD then watch it....you can't. Even tho PowerDVD will let u view VOB's, your stand-alone, as u discovered, needs a little different approach.

    2) (This is the step you are missing) Run the files created in step one thru DVD2One. It not only can shrink the movie files size to what I need to fit onto a DVD blank, but the output files will be in the exact form needed to burn a DVD-Video for viewing on a stand-alone. Even if the movie you are burning is less than the maximum 4.36gig allowed, you still can't successfully burn ripped files without it being in the proper form. DVD2One can do that also.

    3) I use Nero v 6 in DVD-Video mode to burn DVD's. I take the files created by DVD2One and put them into the VIDEO_TS folder that Nero creates for u in the wizard...and push the burn button. 12-18 minutes later...I'm watchin the flick on my standalone.

DVD Shrink (free) can also process the ripped files into the form needed for burning. It's not as easy to use as DVD2One, but hey...it's free.

If you don't have Nero, you can burn the files using most any DVD burning software. Just make sure you put them into a folder named VIDEO_TS (all caps) and burn the whole folder.

    Hope this helps.

Do NOT burn the folder that DVD Shrink created into the VIDEO_TS folder in Nero, just drag and burn the files only. If yer putting the DVD Shrink VIDEO_TS folder into the NERO VIDEO_TS folder...that's why it won't work on your stand-alone.

    Other ideers....
It could be your media, or your burning software. Inexpensive media usually has low quality dye and can cause many problems with playback. If you are using Nero v5, you may need to burn it in data UDF/ISO mode. If it's version 6, use DVD-Video mode. It may just be that Nero doesn't work well on your system.

Try different of both. Some stand-alones can be very fickle. Have u tried playing the video on another stand-alone to see if it's a proble unique to YOUR player?

  5. Ive never had a problem burning an .iso or an .img file its only with the Folders that I have issues. And yes I DO drag the files over and not the folder with it. Most of the dvds work, sometimes they don't when it comes to folder its like a 50/50 chance for some reason. I know its not my media, cause Ive never had a problem ( I buy cakes ) Its just for some reason when I burn loose files I have a problem.

  6. I've burned it with a program called Copytodvd and it works fine, I guess nero was messing it up somehow! Very strange.
