  1. HI, this is my first time posting here. I bought a pioneer AO4 a year ago, but due to other stuff going on, I havn't really used it much till now. I am dismayed that i keep getting mostly coasters from it. Out of about 16 tries, i have made 4 discs that verified ok, the rest all had the same problem. 1 or more files come up as inacecsible. I thought these drives were supposed to be reliable

here is what i have tried:

    - putting burner in in 2 different machines, 1 XP pro, 1 win2k server
    - setting burner to master and slave on 2ndary ide
    - setting burner to pio and udma
    - updated firmware of ao4 to 1.40
    - verbatim and tdk 2x media
    - burning at 1x and 2x
    - burned under and over 4gb
    - burned data dvd with 3 large files(1gb+ each) avi files
    - burned data dvd with lots(500+) of small mp3 files
    - source disk is on separate ide channel

i'm pulling my hair out but can't seem to find any configuration that is stable. I have a huge (1/4 terabyte) backup project that needs to be started asap, and all these coasters are driving me nuts.

    Can anyone offer suggestions?

P.S. not sure if it is worth mentioning, but both computers i used ao4 with are AMD based.

This means nothing. What are the manufacturers of the media?

  4. Did you try it by itself (cable select) without your second drive? Unhook your other cd drive, pin the DVD drive cable select or single, and try it with RW disks. At least you can erase the RWs and use them again.

Did you try running a cleaning disk through it?

(?) Maybe the drive is bad.

    Good luck.

Yea, because hardware never malfunctions or breaks.

  6. bottle-necked,
I tried that as well .. still the same. Does anyone know of issues with
    the AO4 and amd/via chipsets?

I just love how transparent all this technology is I think i'll get a Mac next.

  7. What software are you using to burn...I had some problems when using NERO...switched to Imgtool....burns everytime with A104. Also burns good when using DVDDecrypter in the ISO mode. Have used genaric and brand name DVD-R.....Just a throught....

  8. I'm using nero, atm, however i'm making data dvds, not video dvds, so i'm not sure how practical those 2 tools will be, but i'll give them a looksie, can't hurt. :P
