I use DVDWS and make discs that play in my standalone and PS2. And 2 other PS2s. So, it can be done. :c)

I've read here that PS2's can be very picky about media. And some models (possibly older models?) refuse to play +R.

Go to DVD Media and look up your type and brand of disc to see what others have experienced.

Go to DVD Players and look up PlayStation 2 to see what type/brands work best in PS2.

    Also, see this thread: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=184928

The only other difference, besides discs, with what I do, is I've never done it via an image file. I write the DVD folder to my harddrive (to check/test in PowerDVD) then I burn the folders to discs (RW first, which also works on my PS2, then + or - R).

Hope that helps. :c) Good luck.

Well, you did not say that in your post. :c* Helps a lot to have info like that. All you said was you made DVDs in DVDWS that play on a standalone but not in PS2.

Re-read my response. I use the same. My discs work. Perhaps try the create folders instead of image way. Or .. continue to use what you know works for PS2.

How many times have you had a bad disc for PS2? Once? Twice? A dozen? You may have had a disc or 2 that was scratched, dirty or full to the edge and the PS2 was more sensitive to it.

  6. Ive been having the same problems as you, plays audio but no plays sound. So yesterday i was reading a doom9 guide on making dvd with svcd cuz i had been using only vcd video. I used dvd lab and when i put the disc in the menus were all f***d up. But when i play the vcd i get only audio, then when i play the svcd it plays perfectly, but all the menus are f**** up. So i think its either down to the menu's or the bitrate of the movies or something. Im sure it has to do with the menus. cuz after i made that dvd i went back to make another dvd with fixed? menus. I thought what had broken my menus was because i used dvd patcher to change all the vobs to 480x480 but i kept the original bitrates.

i.e 8mbps for the menus and 3.5mbps for the video files.

well the second time i made the dvd the menus were still f****d up *BUT* both movies played. The vcd was hella blocky which makes me think its the sh**y decoder they put in the ps2 that cant play 352x240 video files (last i checked that was a standard dvd compliant resolution) , and the svcd files 480x480 played perfectly.

So once i get my dvd-rw discs today so i can stop wasting dvd-r's ill try bumping up the bitrate on the video files to like 5mbps and maybe that will fix the blocks i see all over the vcd files.

acme - It might be better to start your own thread if you need help or opinions with what you're doing.

Seems to me it has nothing to do with what this thread is talking about at all except, maybe, that you both have a PS2.

Good luck with what you're doing, but posting in this particular thread is not helping beer17 at all, and it's their thread.

  8. Why cant your PS2 play DVD-Rs ?.

My friend has got one of the very first PS2s, she had to put her name on waiting list originally..but it can play most DVD-Rs, its sometimes dont wanna play certain brands but ive found that Ritek discs play on it ok.
