  2. I think you could just use DVDx to convert movies to VCD. Just make sure the input settings for sound is set to 48KHz so it will be DVD compliant.

Then you can use TMPGEnc DVD Author or Ulead Movie Factory 2 to author with your basic menu.

Never tried it, but I think it should work.

  3. It works

I do this with my downloaded movies.
Keep in mind that TMPGENC does not allow NTSC and PAL on 1 disc
and different resolutions (use dvd patcher to fool the programme ).

In VCD format you can put 6 hours on 1 DVD (depending on bitrate)

  5. That's easy to do with NeoDVD Plus and it will generate a menu and you could even add chapter points plus it will do the DVDR burn.

  6. I would use dvd shrink to get 3 movies on one dvd. I just rip the dvd, shrink it twice using dvdshrink 2 and then author a new dvd using dvd shrink 3. I have not actually managed to successfully do this as of yet but this the method I will use when I have the time. I did do it but there was no audio, I think it was because I deleted the wrong audio stream in dvd shrink.

  8. DVD2One and DVDShrink don't allow you to generate a basic menu. But I agree that DVD Shrink is a good choice to do this. If you want a menu you really need to author one yourself. There are several way to do this, but one is to:

    1) Compress each video seperately
    2) Load VOB files in TMPGenc/DVD Lab
    3) Generate menu
    4) Author
    5) Burn

If you don't care about the menu then DVD Shrink is the way to go. You can skip from movie to movie and retain chapter points, but no menu.

I use TMPGenc to author my DVD's, but use DVDPatcher so that I can persuade TMPGenc to accept mixed mode DVD's

If I want to mix NTSC/PAL on a single DVD-R, I simply use DVDPatcher

All you are doing is changing the header so that it thinks the format is either PAL/NTSC, BUT you MUST change the header back to the original format, BEFORE burning the DVD otherwise you player will happily play it in the format, so you end up with a screwed movie/episode
