    How would i rip my favorite scene from a movie to a file? And would i really need to encode it or is the original size reasonable enough? It's a 2 minute scene, and i just want the video file on my computer, what program would i need?

    Try VDUB (MPEG or MOD version, one of them), it supports reading VOB's if you want it in AVI.

    Try DVDShrink if you want it in VOB format, just put the start/stop at your favorite scenes.

    It does depend on how space consious u are and how easily you want it done. I agree , using VirtualDubMod or similar is probably best.
