Probably because the people that uploaded said file don't really care if their files are any good. You have to consider the source.

About 80% of the files I have dl with RAR have had problems. I'm not a fan of the format. Apparently a CRC? file can be included with the files to verify/correct the problems. Very few uploaders seem to include this. I have always wondered if the uploaders are just trying to mess with us. As far as repairing RAR files, there are some possibilites. You might do a search for RAR repair on the net to see if you can find anything. Me, I gave up and look for files in a more reliable source/format.

If you are getting errors for files that you are archiving, you have a problem with your machine! What it is, is a much more difficult question. Could you cut/paste the exact error message? (leave out any file title information, I don't really want to know what you are downloading)

And if you are getting corupted downloads, you need to find a better way :P I get about .1% that are corrupt after download, and those are almost always the fault of the uploader, or more likely their ISP.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

C:\Program Files\mirc\download\catch_22-Dinosaur_Sounds-2003-iTS.rar: CRC failed in catch_22-Dinosaur_Sounds-2003-iTS\06-catch_22-dreams_of_venus-its.mp3 the files is corrupt

  7. Hm... looks like you are trying to unpack something illegal...

Update your WinRAR program to the newest version and try once again to unpack...

If this don't work I just have to say like the others here, your source is screwed!

Try unpacking with a program such as powerarchiver. It corrects simple errors within archives

  9. UltimateZip's a really good freeware archive app, with support for most formats, and some 'repair' functions.

The CRC is a checksum, which is supposed to indicate whether the file is corrupt or not. (AFAIK)
