There's not really enough info here to go on. Did you try using Winrar and have it fail? You can go to
    http://www.7-zip.org/
and install 7 Zip. It's free and can extract RAR archives. If you feel that you know what you are doing and the file just won't extract, it certainly could be corrupted. That happens ALL THE TIME to files on P2P networks. There is no fix for this.

By the way, there is nothing special about FLAC format files. The problem is that either you don't know how to extract RAR archives or your RAR archive is corrupted.

  3. How do you know it is archived with winrar? what is the file extension?

Sometimes people rename the proper file extension to something else to disguise it (e.g. so if in this case its supposed to be .flac, and it looks like .rar, try renaming it to .flac)

Are you trying to extract the .wav file from the .flac? That won't work - you need to convert it to a .wav, not do an extraction.

Not sure if that is what you are trying to do or not, so that is just a thought.

The file is from a newsgroup, not P2P. I use WINRAR to extract all files (audio/video) that end in .RAR, .yEnc, .mp3, etc. Flac files are the only ones WINRAR doesn't seem to want to extract. This has happened every time in the past, too. I finally have gotten around to seeking a solution on this ordeal.

Is there something I'm not doing in WINRAR?

If you have flac files you can convert with flac frontend, free downloadable software. mp3s are not extracted by winrar either. Many MP3s are not further compressed on usenet.

You might consider downloading with grabit which automatically decompresses and joins many files.

Thank you, I will get flac front end. And I probably worded it wrong, I meant I can open other files such as mp3's. I use Newsleecher then WINRAR to open the files.

  8. You need to convert flac file to wav. flac is lossless, there are plugins that play them in Windows media player or convert them to wav . Google for both

You can also listen to .flac files directly with winamp if you you install the flac plugin. Just google for it.

There is a .shn plugin for winamp too in case you have some shn files.

  10. When I download music files rapidshare files (flac) using winrar and extract them, they convert into one flac file instead of one for each music track. How can I fix that?
