I heard it was coming, didn't know it was out.

do you have a link? after reading so much about an industry standard, it would be fun to take a look at even a lite edition.

acording to many people who tried on another forum im on --- so far out of 10 people that posted , none have been able to make it run at all and 2 needed to re-isnstall windows after installing it as it really wacked thier system .. and these are avid users and pro video editors ...

the free protools is about the same thing ...

the free avid also is extremly limited on import and export ...

true... I had issues trying to install ProTools Free, and after the third attempt I thought "why am I bothering? I have Vegas & Sonar" and quit screwing with it.

I wonder if those guys are too into the dedicated-hardware model, and they can't write a decent app that doesn't rely on their own machinery...

Xpress DV and the newer Pro version require no hardware except for the USB dongle.

Not suggesting that they write the best software though.

xpress DV Pro requires the "MoJo" hardware if you want it to really work (well) .. its input formats are REALLY limited ... though it has some nice features ...

avid freedv worked fine here, it didn't wack my system...but as you it is very limited on import...I could only import one mov and it didn't like my test dv files I had...so it isn't that useful.

Yup! I forgot about the mojo board, so I guess XPpro really does need some hardware, since without the mojo, it is really just Xpress.

I might test the free version, but they saw fit to only release it for winXP, and I won't move to that OS until I absolutely have to change!

  10. Yeah, that's pretty much the same as I have read elsewhere. Avid have completely misunderstood the home market. Their first attempt was a full turnkey system for eight grand. Then version two required that you buy the specific pieces of hardware for it to function at all. Version 3 will only run on XP and has NO support from Avid at all (oh and it costs £1500) and now FreeDV seems to be worse than most video shareware. All this from a company that pretty much rules the professional editing roost worldwide! Sad.

It's all hype, that and people that don't want to change. Avid had something many years ago, now they just have a big price tag.

  12. I got it to run, but it sucks, I know it's free but they could add a few more features to it. All you can import is Quicktime Jpegs and Tiffs! What a useless program, I'd never buy anything from Avid now. They would have been better off to make people pay $20 and at least be able to import AVI's!
