I've given up trying to make a decent VCD using my ATI AIW card's capture program. It captures just fine but the resulting file is impossible to edit. Many programs won't even open it and the ones that do give bad audio sync problems after any kind of editing.
So, I'm going to try the VirtualDUB method instead. Using the Huffyuv codec about how much hard drive space is needed for an hour of video?

Obviously depends on frame size, frame rate, colour format, and audio format/compression.
As an example, from which you can extrapolate,
384x288, 25fps, YUY2, PCM Stereo 44kHz - 9800 MBytes
384x288, 25fps, YUY2, MP3 128KB/s - 9500 MBytes
Capturing in RGB24 adds about 50%
