All donations have been removed from this site. The original idea of taking donations was actually for a good cause. I was working with the Red Cross to take donations for the past few weeks from all of the sites we have. I realized that this should not be on this site that the original author wants to offer as freeware. We found out that this was taken as a scam only to make money from someone elses work. I just want to make clear that we are not out to make money from someone else's work and we fully support DVD Shrink to always be a freeware app and if the original author does not expect to make money from it then no one else should either.
If it was for the Red CRoss, why didn't he make it very clear that it was for the Red Cross? Must be all the hate mail was bringing him down.

  2. can you say 'saving face'
it smelled like a scam and was a scam.

He claimed he was collecting 50% for him and 50% for Red Cross. Red Cross never heard of them and take seriously someone purporting to (however you spell it) be accepting donations on their behalf. He was shutdown and approriately so by his webhosting provider.

edit: ok (maybe not) I guess he voluntarily forwarded to dvdshrink.org till this mess gets straightened out

I can smell the bullshit from here. Without a doubt, scam.

Anybody that paid via Paypal.com should alerrt them of them scam and get the transactions reversed. DVDshrink.org and those guys should lead the charge. All it takes is a call/e-mail to Paypal.

Scams like this deserve a great big bandwidth wasting DoS attack. The kind that costs the recepient lots of bandwidth money.

Yes. :c) and for quite a few shareware programs when I found them really useful. Granted they were small amounts and sometimes the makers only wanted postcards or other things they collected.

But money only when there was an alternative to PayPal. I don't do PayPal.

  7. Rarely as much as I would like (or maybe should) but yes to legitamate sites and tools I do donate. I sent Baldrick a few bucks for DVDrhelp, not as much as I would have liked to, but at least I sent something.

I stay away from any scams if I can help it, and I normally spot them a mile away. Though I can be taken for a ride like anyone else if their good enough with it.

I register trialware programs I like and want to use (even if I can get them free).

And if I continue to use DVDshrink I'll go to the site and donate there too.
Although sorry to say I don't use the program all that much right now. Mostly I did a bunch of rips and testing with it so I could help others with it. I am mostly doing captures, not rips. Most of my money for now is going towards hardware.

I bought the commercial versions of Nero, Ulead DVD MovieFactory, VCDEasy, and TMPGenc after using the trial versions for a while. And, of course, I have donated to this site. Happy to do it!

When I move on to making DVDs (on my Christmas computer), I'll be making donations or buying the full versions of whatever software I like. I'm GLAD to be able to give a little back to the wonderful people who take the time to write these great programs for us to use.

Also, I think it's fair to encourge people to donate as much as they can because I'm sure some people would like to donate but just don't have the money. I very much like the idea of keeping these programs free.

Gees, you don't use PayPal? Can you say why?

Sure. :c) I only attempted to use them once. It was not for a purchase. I wanted to send birthday gift money from UK to family in US for something they wanted to purchase online. (The site would not accept my UK credit card, although some do.) I read everything in advance and registered. They took those 2 small amounts from my account (for verification) and I sent the payment.

It was only when payment was received that the recipient wrote to tell me they had declined accepting the payment because of an exorbitant fee PayPal was going to deduct for "processing", leaving too little of my gift remaining to make the intended purchase.

I closed my account and never used them since solely because this practice was hidden from me during the entire process. Everything I read said similar to "send money for free" without detailing that it was free to me, but would cost the recipient.

I would have been happy to pay some reasonable amount as a fee had that been detailed from the beginning. As it was, I felt it was deceptive and after days spent trying to provide this gift it ended in a huge disappointment to my family despite my best efforts. :c(

I have also read horror stories from people who are "merchants" and use PayPal for their payment processing. Evidently PayPal can, at any time, question the merchants validity, evidently without basis other than at their whim, (even after the merchant is long well-established) and freeze and withhold all funds.

I've read accounts where hundreds and thousands of dollars are held in limbo awaiting resolution. Obviously a good practice, if it is deserved, but many sound genuinely undeserving of such treatment.

I do not trust them as far as I could (virtually) throw them.

I've used Paypal since the X.com days (1998).
    http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees-outside

It's clearly outlined several times. At least now it is. I'm pretty sure it's always been clear. The 3% is wire carriage fees from VISA, etc, not Paypal. That's charged to anybody that sells and uses cards.

But it is a USA company and USA friendly moreso than not.

Paypal is not FDIC, so never leave money in the account. And most account shut-downs are fraud related or scam-related. Though their customer service does suck and they are a bit shady, a lot like eBay.

www.paypalsucks.com is always a fun read.

I appreciate that LordSmurf. :c) But this was personal account to personal account.
PayPal charges Premier and Business accounts to receive payments. Personal accounts are free, but may not receive credit card payments.
It states it again under withdrawal, add, and receive funds.

And my transaction was not by credit card. I specifically used a debit card to ensure that there was no problem. :c)

A "cross border" fee may apply, but what they attempted to take was far in excess of any % stated on that or any other page.

The watch they wanted to buy was $100.00. I sent $110.00 (just in case). The birthday girl was going to end up with roughly $85.00 after PayPal took their cut. :c*

Though their customer service does suck and they are a bit shady, a lot like eBay.
They are EBay. I'd never buy anything off of Ebay either! :cD Except maybe a non-mechanical toy. :c) I know some people have luck, but there too - too many opportunities to be scammed. I stay clear. I'll gladly pay more for guarantees and peace of mind. A savings is no savings if you don't get what you paid for in the first place. :c)

Yes, sometimes I do send money for software and other things. But if it turns shady, then I'll most likely extract that money back from them in a variety of ways.
