  1. Greetings, all. I'm pretty familiar with converting between various media types, but I'm having a problem with a format that I haven't worked with before. I purchased and downloaded a movie from www.divx.com (actually, it is a "Battle of the Planets" episode) that has the file extension .DiVX. Note that this isn't simply a DivX .AVI that has been renamed with a .DIVX extension. I can play the file with the DiVX Playa, but I want to convert this to MPEG-1 or MPEG-2. My problem is that I'm not sure of what program to use that will accept files that are in the .DIVX format. Again, this isn't simply an .AVI file that is DiVX encoded.

    Can anyone help?

  3. Unfortunately, it will not open in either VirtualDub or TMPGEnc (thanks for asking, though).

It is simply an AVI with a DIVX extension. Change the extension to AVI, then use the 4cc changer and make it divx/divx. Then use tmpg or vdub on it.

  5. Gazorgan,

Thanks for the tip. Alas, I used the 4cc changer to change it to divx/divx and it did not work. Media player throws out an error when I try to play and tmpeg and vdub both return an unrecognizable file format error.

And what does GSpot tell you about the file?
    Hello.

  7. Tommyknocker,

GSpot tells me that it isn't a valid .AVI file if I try to load it.
