I just got a Samsung LCD monitor. I ran the Natural Color software to calibrate the monitor. The first adjustment is contrast. When I use the monitor's onscreen menu it covers up the part of the software that is a reference point for adjusting the contrast. I can't move either the software image or the position of the onscreen menu.
If you have used this software I would love to know how to do this.

Samsung calls that a feature

Fortunately that's the only screen in the software that has that feature.
I can't believe I bought a hardware calibrator less than a year ago that only handles CRTs. I was so sure my next monitor would be a CRT. -
Are you positive it will only work with a CRT? If it connects to the computer, it should still work with a LCD, if it connects to the monitor then of course it will not. The only real difference is that you can't use suction cups to hold it onto the LCD. It is most likely a ploy to get you to buy another expensive calibrator device from the same company. What brand and model of calibrator is it?

It's a Colorvison Spyder. I remember when I bought it that the version that worked with LCDs cost more. I think the current version works with both CRTs and LCDs.

You might want to email them. The way I look at it, the device only measures the intensity of the light and the color of the light, I can't see how it wouldn't work on a LCD, or a light bulb for that matter. The only thing it may not be able to read is a 9600K setting of an LCD, but if you ran your LCD at 6500K it should work just fine. If they try to sell you something new then I guess it is time for a different manufacturer.
I would try it anyway, set your LCD for 6500K and hold the detector near but not touching the display and see if it works. If not you will just have to delete the ICM profile that the software creates.Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better...
