  1. This is a newbie question. I use Smart Ripper for ripping DVDs. It has 2 choices - Movie only and Files. With the second (all files) I have no problems. But the first rips only some files and among others the essential VIDEO_TS.IFO is not present. For futher processing I need to create it. I do it by IfoEdit utility. But in the result I lack important information - what subtitles and language version are there. Where has to be English, German, Spanish... is only 'Subpicture' word (as PowerDVD shows me). What's worse - subtitles are there, but as only unreadable green smudges.
My question is this - has the 'Movie only" any use ? If so, what must I do to avoid mentioned problems ? Thanks.

  3. Nice answer . I know this utility. But I'd rather learn something new. Throwing away something just because somebody said so is not the way for me. So please somebody answer my above question. Thanks.

  4. I've used Smart Ripper 2.41 for a while (before DVDshrink and Xcopy) and I never had any problems with it. When I select movie it copies only the movie and menu thats it. Try these links:

Use DVDShrink. You'll learn something new and avoid the mentioned problems.

    That does answer your question.

If you want to make things difficult I'm sure someone here can help you. You could always load up DOS 6.1 and have all kinds of fun.

I guess I don't understand your question because programs like DVDshrink and many others show you all the elements on the DVD and allow you to keep or delete whatever you want. If it's custom menus or subtitles you want to add then of course you would need an authoring program.

I have in the past just used NeoDVD Plus to import the VOB files then made my own custom menu added chapters then let the program do the burn for me. I don't do that anymore now that we have all these wonderful programs available.

Of course 'movie only' has use.

People tend to watch the movie far more often than the extras (in fact, I've got dozens of movies whose extras I've not even watched to the end because they were so boring!), so it's obvious that if you have a precious movie that is quite rare or is likely to be mistreated (children, anyone?) then it makes sense to back up the movie only part of the film.

    Use DVD2ONE and it's easy!
    Regards,

    Rob
