  1. Hi,
    *
    I am about to buy a Pioneer 106/A06 writer, and probably a Pioneer all-in- one player/receiver with 5 speakers.
    *
    I intend to buy a model with mp3 palyback capabilities, but I cannot find out if any will playback mp3 from DVD-R or jusr CDR.
    *
    Does anyone have any experience?
    *
    I have heard of ways of converting music into dummy dvd movies, ie a blank screen, with just the music, but I would like to be
    able to play the mp3 directly from the disc.
    *
    Thanks,
    *

  2. 13 Pioneer players come up on the DVD Player compatibility list, with DVD-MP3 capability.

    <<<==== Over There

    I would start with this list and do some research. I was supprized by the result. Don't know you can trust the info.

    How many hours/days of mp3 music can fit on a dvdr? I'd say 8 hrs of uncompressed PCM fits on a DVD-Video, or maybe 4 days of AC3.
    I mean it in the nicest way.

  3. Thanks for the reply.

    I didn't see that feature in the features list page - very stupid of me.

    Good news, though the DCS 313 which I'm thinking of buying is supported!

    I did a very rudimentry calculation on time:mp3 at 160Kbps
    160x1024 = 163840bits/sec
    /8 = 20240 bytes/sec
    /1024 = 20 KB/sec
    x60 = 1200KB/min
    x60 = 72000KB/hr
    /1024 = 70.3MB/hr

    4.37GB x 1024 = 4474MB
    /70.3 = 63 hours of mp3!

    I'm sure the file structure takes up space etc, but that's pretty impressive

  5. if this helps with anything. a good 99% of the mp3's i have are at the 320 rate (constant, not vari) and on one dvd i was roughly able to fit about 700 songs.

    slightly similar on my mp3 deck i have 2019 songs and i set them up to play at work. 8 hours later we were still only on song 132 if that helps with somewhat judging with time.
