  1. Hey all, i'm not exactly a noob at conversion, however, i haven't done an xvid to dvd conversion yet, at least, not successfully...the first problem i ran into was when i put this xvid into tmpgenc to make it a dvd it only recognized it as a video stream with no audio stream, so i then used virtual dub and saved the audio stream seperately as a wav and then saved the movie file as divx with no audio...then i through the divx file and the audio file into their respective places in tmpgenc and let her go. After the encode was finished, i attempted to playback the dvd file and i get the picture but no audio, as if tmpgenc didn't synch the audio in and just converted the movie. Is there a reason that its not taking the audio or that my machine is lettting me here it? Thanks in advance for any help!

    PS
If anyone knows of a better way to go from XViD to DVD mpg please let me know!! Thanks!

  2. It's probably a 5.1 AC3 audio file. TMPGEnc hates those (doesn't convert them for you). Confirm this using GSpot. If so, here's what you can do.

Take the audio file you got from VirtualDub and use that directly when you author your DVD (use elemental streams). If the app complains, then you will need to fix the file (strip the WAV header off) before using it (use BeSliced).

  3. A better way you could try using Mainconcept 1.4 this will convert the Xvid in about 2 hours and works well, the only problem I have had on occasions is audio sync on a couple of Xvids. But then I use Procoder which takes longer but is in my opinion the best out there.

  5. ok, another problem now...i'm using mainconcept mpeg encoder and i tried to recode it except it made it full screen, is there an option to go fullscreen but keep the movies AR, hence letterbox it...i know tmpgenc has it, but does mainconcept? thanks!

  6. Yes you need to click details, then advanced after that you should see an aspect ratio box and it is set to 4:3 change to 16.9, do a small test to see if its what you want.

You should also check the http://mainconcept.com/downloads.shtml and download the advanced settings pages for 1.4

  7. alright, thanks for that info, i got it workin and looked through that advanced settings pdf...however, i have another issue..i have 2 xvids that need to fit onto one dvd, is there a place that i can specify a size i need the file to be and have it auto adjust the settings as far as bitrate or do i just have to experiment with the bitrate myself? Thanks!

What I do in those instances is encode at the highest bitrate and author, then use DVD Shrink to fit it to the DVD. You could also load them into the wizard of TMPGEnc and get the bitrate set where both will add up to 100% or use a bitrate calculator.
