DVD Shrink users...got a question

When ever I rip a movie I usually use DVD Decrypter, DVD2ONE and RecordNow Max...but I wantd to see how great DVD Shrink was in keeping the WHOLE dvd on one DVD-R and tested it out on Ghost Ship. I compressed the movie 15%, extras 40% and menus uncompressed and I must say...the video quality on my 32" tv was pretty damn good!!! I haven't watched on my 65" widescreen yet though.

I just wanted your opinion on full dvd rip/transcoding using DVD Shrink.

What % compression do you find still acceptable for viewing a movie?

I have compressed a few movies down to about 50%, in order to fit two movies on 1 dvd+r, On my 27" tv I can't tell a differrence between that and the original. Although when tring to compress animation such as SouthPark it was reallly noticable at anything less than about 80%

I would say beyound the 30% level begins to get very noticeable, although I can notice it on lower levels. I have a 38" widescreen HDTV. If I am casually watching a move compressed at about 25% it is not too noticeable. If I get close to the screen and try to scrutinize, I can see artifacts. I would recommend splitting beyond 25% compression.

Edit: It will also depend 0n the video source ie, how much motion, lots of dark sceens, and other factors. In the final analysis, only you can be the judge as to what is acceptable to you.

DVDshrink version 3 with deep analysis is better than 2.3 for quality.
For 2.3 the limit is 30% but you can get better results from ver3 beta 5.

I still prefer DVD2ONE (movie only) over DVDshrink, perhaps when DVDshrink 4.0 comes out I will change my mind.

yeah...ALL of my dual layer back ups are the movie only using DVD2ONE...but lately I've just been wondering how good a dual layer would fit on one DVD-R...I mean if its a normal 90 minute movie. I mean I never watch the extra or features of movies I don't care that much about...now something like T3 or Matrix 2...I'd like to see the extras saved on
