  1. Ok Im doin vhs backups and recording off direct tv.
    I read lordsmurfs tutorial and he says to use 352 instead of 640... why? doesnt that lower the quality? Im backing up vhs tapes for a video store so I need the best quality. please explain! Im using a ATI radeon card

  2. VHS resolution is only about 352x240 (NTSC) so capturing any higher would be a waste of time

    the reason you capture at 352x480 is so you capture both interlaced frames

  3. If you are going to put the video on CD or DVD then definatly capture 352x480,you will get no or few dropped frames.Capturing 640x480 is ideal for viewing on PC and have a fast CPU.

    640x480 (NTSC) isn't valid for DVD, but 352x480 is. I still capture at the highest resolution I can, then resize to the desired resolution, just because I've found that the end file (after resizing) comes out looking better then if I capture at a lower resolution.
