So far out of the 60+ backups I've made, I've made 0 coasters...I can't believe it...even using some of the cheaper media that people say is crap...all the back ups I've made played flawlessly.
But now that I posted this...I'll probably make a few coasters now...DUR...knocking on wood as i type this out.

I had a few coasters at the beginning when I was trying to figure out how to do things, but I haven't had a single coaster since I got my first one to work. I do backups, home movies, and stuff off TV, and 150 Ritek G03's later I'm still going strong!

I have done 2 coasters in 30 disks. I know it is not big numbers but the dvd media is so expensive.

I'm not saying! Don't want to jinx myself. :cD
But........ so far, only coasters made were discs at the bottom of packs that seemed to have tiny scratches. Grrr. There's no place like 127.0.0.1
The Rogue Pixel: Pixels are like elephants. Every once in a while one of them will go nuts. -
I think my past 500 or so have been coaster-free if you're only talking media reasons. Actually quite nice to go for so many months with no flaws. I mostly avoid cheap media, but even my Princo acts decent.
In that 500, I've made about 10-20 stupid mistakes at author or encode, burned without noticing or testing, which ended in the trash and reburned after I fixed the dumb error.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I just started, made about 20 copies on DVD+R, only 2 coasters, but that
was my own mistake, I copied the files straight to my HD and burned
the discs, after that sound went on and of, maybe because of encryption
or copy-protection. (these are dvd-audio discs with dts track included)
After using DVDshrink to copy the original data to my HD I could burn them without any problem.
Using DVD+R's from Bayer, a german company. They cost 17,50 euro's per 10 without jewelcase, which is 9.77 US dollars.
Never had buffer-underruns, nor burn-proof activation. starting other
programs did not influence the burning-process. -
only buy the best media and you should have no problems ritek 4x speed G04 i choose all the time. the only time i get coasters is because my computer is not stable nothing to do with the media i use... can burn full movie movie in 14mins 4.36gb useing pioneer 106-D

Since I have changed to Ritek I haven't had any coasters. I have probly burned 300 DVD's. Alot of the time coasters are the fault of the computer system and not the disk. I can multi-task while I burn and have no problems. However, if my friend even touches a key he will get a coaster.

i average about 3 - 4 a week..but thats cause i mass produce sometimes for resale

I am perfect and never make a mistake.
Once it thought I did, but I was wrong, I was right!
Actually I don't think I ever made a coaster. I have had some problems though. I tested on RW, it was good, but then the RW would not erase!
I made a disk I hadn't tested and took it to a friends house right away, It got jerky and locked up at the end, I though Dam, my first coaster! But when I got home and looked, his player had scratched the bottom of the disk all up near the outer edges. It was his player not my disk!
I do have 3 disks that work perfect in my DP300, that did not work in a Alegro combo. I have about half my Disks that will not work in a DP312 Norcent! The DP312 is garbage! At least this one is! It jerks and locks up on the end of a Ritek 4x printable that was burned at 2X! Disk is perfect in the Dp300!
All my disks are working perfect still on the DP300 still though!
So though I have some problems, they all work for me, so I haven't actually made a coaster! Most disks are Leda/printco 1x disks. I just got riteks and only burned one so far. -

I only had coasters my first week burning. That was a year and a half ago
-
I've had one coaster (Pc locked-up)on my first backup lucky for me it was an rw. Now I've burned 100 or so without a hitch.
-
If you discount media testing (which I do alot of) then I'd say... hundreds. Its been a long time since I coasted a media that I've purchased for regular use.
-
true coasters (due to bad media or bad burns) = 0
pseudo coasters (due to authoring errors or content problems) = >8
total burns = 100+
last coaster - over 40 burns ago.
