The local media keeps talking about how some of our local news had hit the national and international media. Granted, this is some big stuff, but I'm not buying it... Have you heard about any of these ???

FYI: This is not supposed to be a political post. Don't make it one. This is a "who's heard about this" kind of post. Thanks.

  2. I heard about the bake sale the day after it happened. It made me burst out laughing. I thought it was a very creative protest.

I'm also curious where you are located. I want to see if the news dies out past a certain geographic range.

  6. I'm from the Uk and this hasn't surfaced. What was the original point of affirmative action bake sale, it seems to me it would obviously offend people, assuming that all the cookies were of the same size.?
Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.
The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.

You'd need to understand what Affirmative Action is and its history as it relates to college admissions.

Currently, a white male and a minority with equal qualifications would often result in the white being denied entrance. They have a minority quota. Worse, a white male with superior qualifications would be turned down whereas a minority with lower qualifications would be accepted due to the quota. It's essentially reverse discrimination, though that was not the original goal. The original goal was to force schools to accept "*****" students, something that started here in the 1960s.

It is an old system that has outlived it usefulness, according to the protesters. That was there way of showing how the AA would apply to other situations.

Case in point... About 3 years ago a white female was denied admission to the University of Georgia. At that time, UGA's admittance program consisted of a point structure. You would earn X amount of points for your SAT scores, Y amount for being in state, etc.... Then if your total score was over a certain number, you were accepted.

Well, this woman investigated further and found that if she was black, her score would have been high enough for admittance. Essentially, she was turned down because she was not a minority. This ended up in court and the judge ruled that UGA's method discriminated against whites and had to rework their policies.

Even though this particular case was resolved, it is a very common occurrence in other areas as well.
