What is the best tool to split a DVD-9 in 2 DVDs?

exist something easier to use as IfoEdit?

  2. I used to use Ifoedit, good tool, lots of control. But it has a significant learning curve and since you are just adujusting pointers, no way to visually check out what you are doing. I've been using DVDShrink for this lately. Seems to work really well. Allows you to see more what you are doing and to maintain the extras if you want them (The menus don't work though if you re-author).

DVDFab looks good, but I haven't used it.

  3. ifoedit is the best in my opinion.

DVD fab doesnt allow you to copy the whole dvd with menus and extras and also choose where to split the disc. Its all automatic. In movie only mode, it changes the vobs alot.

Ifoedit lets you copy to two discs, no hassel, but the gui is a little bland. Im having a little trouble as you can see from the post below, but I really like this program.

Besides more often than not we have to use ifoedit for some purpose in the backing up process so why not just stick with ifoedit. Its easy to learn just use doom 9

    oh! no nag screens!

  4. DVDFab will let you copy the whole dvd with menus and extras and also choose where to split the disc(main movie). The menu's and extras go on the first disc and the main movie is split, part on disc 1 and the rest on disc 2. It does have two 10 second nag screens but none are put on the disc and those are no big deal. One when you open the program, another right before it starts processing the disc. A quick click on each one and continue. It will put a Put Disc 2 In graphic at the end of the first disc and a End of Disc graphic at the end of disc 2 unless you choose the option not to.

  5. DVDFAB looks good, but it's not ready for prime time use yet... until then, IFOEdit is a powerful util. If you get stuck, try using my guides (URL in sig).

  6. gicio & wizardkt,

I owe you two and the rest of you an apology. I just ripped and rechecked ddvfabs options. I was completely mistaken. You can only select were to split the movie when using the Copy Main Movie From DVD option. Again my apologize, I got the options confused.

  7. DVDFab will show a insert disk 2 screen for anything that is selected from menu that is on disk 2 with ifoedit you have to guess where it is. DVDFab is still in its early stages and always improving. Take a look at it and try it don't just take someones word that is not for you. DVDFab is an easy tool with a lot of power features.

Also with the new .dll DVDFab will now rip directly from DVD!

DVDFab is a top tool, I would 100% recommend it.

I tried IFOEdit, but one of my standalone DVD players still has problems with it.

    Kind Regards

DVD Shrink 3.0 beta 5 is a great tool. Many options to reautor, shrink, split, etc. Need to read the guides out there to really understand how to fully exploit this tool. The "NEW" DVD Fab also cost $50 (I think) and all they did was polish the user interface. Shrink is free! 8)

    Apples and Oranges.

You can't compare DVD Fab and DVD Shrink. They're two different programs that do different things.

Shrink is a transcoder - a damn fine one, but a transcoder nonetheless.

Yes they are different applications, but from what I can tell DVDShrink can do most of what DVDFab can.

If you remove most of extras and audio tracks off the original (ie the movie is 100%) it seems to rip through a movie in seconds. So I'm guessing if the movie is going to fit on 1 DVD (in 100% mode) once you remove all the extras then it not going to re-encode the movie.

In any case since DVDShrink I havn't needed to use DVDFab.

I guess it depends on what you mean by best.

I now use DVDShrink for splitting to 2 DVDs, but the process is a little more complex and in some instances you are compressing the movie. I view most of my movies on a Projector so quality is very important to me as specially when you consider the screen is just over 2 meters wide. Generally speaking I don't like to compress too much if I can help it. However I don't mind compressing to the max on the "Making of" etc

To cut a long story short, If you want 100% quality and don't mind changing disc in the middle of a movie then DVDFab will do the job.

For me DVDShrink is the BEST!

I hope this is of help.

  16. Hi all.

gicio, I haven't used DVDFab so cannot comment on it.
You can split a DVD to two DVD-Rs with DVD Shrink though.
The disadvantage is that you lose the menu.
The advantage is that you can choose exactly what goes on each disc.

Here is the DVD Shrink relevant guide:

ddlooping: Great interactive quide on doing the split. I used to be a big DVD2One fan (I still use it some), but when 3.0 beta 5 came out it is about all I use! Question about the split guide though. With 3.0 when you click on reauthor, it opens up a new window. I guess the only difference is that you drag the title to the second window and pick your start and stop points from there, right? I am not totally sure of the reason for the new window, but I guess it increases flexability? Is the official 3.0 coming out soon, or more enhancements and bug fixes to go? Awesome product. It rocks! 8)

  18. Hello hothandiman,

"Great interactive guide on doing the split."

    Thanks, I appreciate it.

" I guess the only difference is that you drag the title to the second window and pick your start and stop points from there, right? "

    Correct.

"Is the official 3.0 coming out soon, or more enhancements and bug fixes to go?"

dvdshrink announced a while ago that the next version would be released sometime in October.

  20. "Thanks for the link..."

    You're welcome.

"..Wink, now that is one TOP application and its FREE."

    I couldn't agree more.

A top and free proggy to make guides about another top and free proggy.
    Isn't that poetic.
