I voted for EVIL DEAD but my favorite movie series without a doubt would be George A. Romero's DEAD TRILOGY:

    NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD
    DAWN OF THE DEAD
    DAY OF THE DEAD

Romero is currently working on trying to make a 4th DEAD film.

In the meantime there is a re-make of DAWN OF THE DEAD that just finished shooting and will be out in 2004. I should point out that Romero had nothing to do with this so expectations are not good at this point in time.

Of course there is also the 1990 re-make of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD which was scripted and supervised (though not directed) by Romero.

In my opinion the first two films were ground breaking works and have had immense influence in the horror film genre.

I take it Lord of the Rings doesn't count beacuse it is really just one long story?

I voted 'Other' and I was specifically thinking of the Omen series.

  5. all those are great choices! its hard to pick just one. But I would have to say starwars would be the most successful money wise. there are always lines of people camping in line weeks before the movie comes out just to be the first to see it opening night. I grew up with starwars so thats my choice.

I think you should address the Village Idot's statement. I cannot seem to get enough of the LOTR series. Of course, you have to catch the Tgpo series, if not for its artistic achievement, but to find out why Texas almost seceded from the Union again. This time, it had nothing to do with state's rights!

Russ Meyer does indeed kick ass but although his films are similiar in theme and *cough* other things he never really did make a series like part 1, part 2, part 3 etc.

Although he does have that reoccurring character Martin Bormann

    P.S.
My favorite Russ Meyer film is BENEATH THE VALLEY OF THE ULTRAVIXENS

  10. I find his artistic use of color and allegory superb. Meyer + tarantino anyone?
But no Bond ? perhaps the greatest franchise so far?
carry on series? recently made extremely topical .. carry on up the khyber, a superb indictment of the fruitless impostion of western values on a people still steeped in the tradions of the warlord and the clan.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Godfather and Godfather II yet.

Also I think it's fair to include Lord of the Rings because it was published as a trilogy of novels, and each movie represents one installment of the trilogy (more or less). It's not like it was one big book that they split into 3 movies. I mean if you're going to include Evil Dead, where ED II was pretty much a higher-budget remake of ED I, then you certainly have to include LOTR.

The only other ZOMBIE series other than Romero's would be maybe the RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD films but part 2 must be the absolute worst "zombie" film ever and I was not impressed with part 3 at all.

There is of course Lucio Fulci's ZOMBIE (see my pic and "tagline") and he made one semi-sequel that even he admits sucks donkey balls hehehe

Other than that there are many zombie films but nothing that really consists of a series.

OMG! I was just gonna post this! I agree with John. Romero's Dead trilogy...the greatest. I'm eagerly awaiting the Dawn remake and hoping Mr. Romero does the 4th dead flick. Hey john, ya know what would be great? If they Remade Day of the Dead, but instead using the original script George had for the movie. That would be killer!

Romero's DAWN OF THE DEAD is the grand daddy of ZOMBIE films and easily one of the 10 best horror films ever ... It is my personal favorite.

To me a remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD is like a remake of CITIZEN KANE ... in short it is a classic and does not need to be remade ... at least not a mere 25 years later.

and NO there needs to be no remake of DAY OF THE DEAD.

However, It would be nice to see a Romero written/directed TWILIGHT OF THE DEAD aka PART 4

I'll add my vote to the Night/Dawn/Day of the Dead run... I'd really like to find a script somewhere for "Dead Reckoning" (the working title for the 4th movie).

and what about the Phantasm series? sure, part 2 was a wad, and part 4 made me fall asleep before I could get that into it, but the original is a classic and the 3rd one has some good moments*.

(*although... I bought it at a horror movie convention before it was released, and my copy apparently has some sequences that I love, but ended up on the cutting room floor, so my view of the film is suspect...)
