I have a Canopus ADVC-100 which I have just started using to capture home movies from Hi-8 and old VHS-C tapes.
I have edited a movie using Windows Movie Maker 2, and created a DVD using Sonic My-DVD. So far, it is all too easy. The hiccup had to come soon.
Now, I want to record my edited movie to VHS to give it to someone who does not have a DVD player. I can use the ADVC-100 to convert the DV Firewire output to analog and use my VHS recorder to record it. Using Windows Movie Maker 2, if I save to DV Camera, WMM takes some 10 minutes or more to construct the output stream, and then starts sending the DV out the firewire port. That is fine with a real DV camera which WMM can tell to start recording at the right time, but I cannot cue my VHS recorder at the right time as WMM gives no warning when the output is about to start.
If I have my edited movie sitting on my HDD in DV-AVI format, is there any software that can send it straight out the Firewire port immediately so that I can cue the VHS recorder?
Thanks in advance,
Kieron

You could try DVIO.
Also, if your only problem is starting the VCR at the right time, have you thought about joining about 3 or 4 seconds of video to the front of the video, it would give you a buffer time to start the recording."A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct."

Excellent.
DVIO is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.
Your suggestion about putting some additional video on the start of the movie would have at least made it possible to cue the recorder, but I would still have had to endure the unnecessary wait of 10 minutes (for a 15 minute movie - even longer for a longer movie) whilst Windows Movie Maker does its redundant transcoding.
Thanks again for the DVIO suggestion.

Kieron
