I have been using arcsoft but now have audio sync probs so I downloaded trial vesions of Ulead video studio 7 and Vegas Video 4 to test them be fore I buy. Vegas was just to complicated and I was shocked it did not have a simple fade, then I try out Video Studio 7 liked it it was easy and almost exactly what I needed untill I find there is no FADE ! Fade is the one transition I use the most.

Is there a plug in for VS7 to add transitions ? If there is I would buy.

in Vegas, go to the end of your movie clip that you want to fade.

if you move your cursor to the upper right corner of your clip, your cursor should change into an icon that looks like a quarter of a circle inside a square (I think... I'm doing this from memory, and I don't have Vegas on this computer!).

If you drag that cursor backwards through your clip, it will create a fade.

if you get totally lost, post again and when I get home tonight I'll post a screenshot... but this should be in the manual - look for "fade" or "opacity" in the index...

jra111, in VS7 click on the "EFFECTS" tab.

There you will find a multitude if transistion effects.

Housepig ,Will it blend the clips together like fad one onto the other?

Spicuzza , I looked in effects and it has about 50 transitions but not fade at least that I could find.

    Thanks Joey

if you want to blend (crossfade) clips, the easy way is to put them on the same video track, one after the other. make sure "automatic crossfade" is enabled (usually is, by default).

take the second clip and drag it to the left, over the first. play and preview - you should see the first clip fade into the second, for as long as the overlap is.

otherwise, you can put them on different video tracks and adjust the fade in and fade out of each clip individually.

OK that makes sense, I kept getting a black .5 of a sec in between. I would rather get VV4 because it has more but I just need to figure it out.

Is there a Vegas Video for dummies?

Thanks for the help Housepig I cant wait to go home and play with it more.

there is 2 or 3 books (on amazon) and 2 different dvd training courses ..

the ones by douglas spotted eagle are some of the best , but they are all good ..

also go through the manual -- which is pretty complete .. there are lots of other resources and downloads and plugins and other such stuff around ..

jra111, do you see the little arrow pointing downwards under the big VideoStudio 7 badge on the upper right hand side of your screen when you are in the effects step?????????????

Try clicking on that and see if there isn't 12 different categories of transition effects.

I'm not going to tell where the crossfade effect is because at this point I'm bored with this thread.

keep that in mind the next time you are looking for information that "someone's gotta know!"

    @jra111 -

go over to the Creative Cow Forums, click on Tutorials and look for the Vegas section - various good tutorials on that site, but even better links to offsite tutorial pages (Marty Hedler's site is a good one).

oh, it wouldn't hurt to cruise the Sony Vegas forum there, either...
