Is a mini dvd and a normal dvd the same thing?

depends. there are two types of mini-dvd. there is an actual mini-DVD disc which is basically a 3.5" disc that doesn't hold as much data as a full size disc. about the same this as a mini CD-R is to a normal CD. However on this site most people are refering to a cDVD when they say mini-DVD. a cDVD is made by putting a DVD file structure, that is the IFO, BUP, and VOB files on a CD-R disc.
