Hi Guys i really need help here with the following problem.

I consider myself an advance user when it come's to installing device's into my PC, after all i custom build the one i'm using now (The specs can be seen in my Pc stats window).

Now onto my problem, this morning i had to reboot my PC because it lock up on me, everything went fine during the reboot but when i went to check to make sure that the secondary IDE channel was still in DMA mode (which it was) i notice that there was the yellow exclamation marks on the DVD Rom Drive and my CD-rw.

So i uninstalled them from the device manager and use the ADD hardware in Device Manager to reinstall them, but unfortunitly it did not work.

I then uninstalled the Secondary IDE Channel using Device manager and rebooted my PC, when it was rebooted windows, as usual it detected them and the IDE channel and loaded the drivers for them, but when i went to check them in the Device Manager the yellow exclamation marks where still there.

I have tried everything i can think from unstalling both of my IDE Channels along the 2 drives in question, pulling all the ide cables, power cables, reinserting them, restarting windows etc..

It detects the drives but will not install them properly so i can not use them, in fact the only drives that do show in the Device Manager and have not got the yellow exclamation marks are the 3 harddrives and my Pioneer DVD-rw.

But when i open the My computer icon on my Desktop the Pioneer and the other 2 Drives are not shown but the 3 harddrives are, here's a pic.....

So the only thing left i can think of is to do a complete format and reinstall on WinXP, but i would like to know if there's any thing else i can try before i take this action.

Any help at all would be helpfull, this one has really stumped me

Oh forgot to mention that everything was working fine up untill this morning and i had rebooted my PC plenty of times in the last weeks or so and never had this problem.

I even tried a system restore but that didn't work.

    Thx again

  5. Have you tried taking one of the hard drives off of the primary IDE ribbon and placing one of your ROM drives there as a slave?

If this doesn't work how about trying an ATA card (probably still PCI)?

    good luck

  6. here's a few suggestions

    1) make sure the default logon user has full admin rights (or just logon as admin)

    2) uninstall norton

    3) run all the windows updates

i remember hearing a long time ago about optical media drives coming up missing, but you're losing everything on your secondary channel which includes HDD's.

your installation isnt an upgrade from win9x/me is it?
