  1. I have a letterbox (16x9) avi file. Whenever I convert it using MPEGenc it squishes it whether I use PAL or NTSC settings. Anyone know what I am doing wrong and if there is a way to keep it 16x9? Is it simply that it won't work on a TV unless it is 4x3 and there is no way to turn it into something like letterbox to get it to stay 16x9?

Also....if you happen to know.....is there one recommended shareware program to get me from dvd file to avi file? I know how to get from avi to mpeg but not from a dvd binary to an avi......

Thanks! This is the best most helpful board I have ever seen

  2. When you say it's a 16x9 do you mean the DAR is 1.85:1 or 2.35:1??

What is the actual resolution of your AVI file? Is it 720x480 or 640x480 or what?
