I have a Sony Digital8 camera that I have set the format at 16x9. What is the best way/combination to get this to DVD video??? I have it planned to go WinDV, TempGenc, TempGenc Author. I someone can point me to a FAQ to preserve the 16x9 that would be great....

Both your encoder and your authoring tool have 16:9 options. Encode as 16:9 and author as 16:9. Everything else is the same as if it were 4:3.

Just to add a bit to guns1inger's info, you may have to explicitly tell TMPGEnc that the source video is 16x9. At least I have to with the DV from my MiniDV camera.

    Otherwise, pretty straight-forward.

It is good practice to check any settings that are automatically adjusted by your encoder (this goes for any encoder), including Aspect Ratio, Field Order, Frame Rate and Resolution. Not all source is tagged correctly, and not all encoders read the tags correctly. Never let your encoder make any decisions for you. Always second guess them.

  5. Also verify that your camcorder is producing true 16:9, not simply covering the top and bottom of a 4:3 frame with black bars.

If it is true 16:9 then when you open the clip in virtualdub the video should got from top to bottom of the screen, without black bars, and should look stretched.
