Not sure if it has already been posted, I did a search and did not see any recent topics about it.

This was listed at NewEgg.com for $259.99 plus $5 shipping until yesterday. Guess it's been selling like hot cakes, that's why NewEgg actually raised the price. The early indication is that it can burn 4X +R discs with MCC, Ricoh, and TY media code at 8X, it can also burn Ritek and CMC made 4X -R discs at 4X without any problem. But i think I'll wait until the year end when other 8X dual format burners appear.

The PX-708A, while compatible with DVD X Copy, is apprently NOT compatible with DVD X Copy Xpress(?), even though Xpress reports a successful burn (versions 2.52 and 3.02).
I have only tried mine with Nero 6.0.0.11 and Stomp RecordNow Max 4.5
BOTH work flawlessly at 8X. -
VEFF,

Yes there was some other Plextor topics. Note these only do 8x if you do a FULL disk, otherwise 4x to 6x.

That was my last burn I just did a little while ago.
The 8X-compatible 4X media IDs are those listed on Plextor's site and in one of the posts above.
I used Nero 6.0.0.11 and Stomp RN Max 4.5 -

Hi,
Ok I am a real newbe to this stuff. I bought a plextor 708a tonight and tried to burn a copy of one of my most favorite movies " The Big Lebowski". I used "shrink 2.3 and Nero 6.0.0.15. First The only two options for burning speed (using Memorex DVD-R version 2.0) was only 2x or 1x in Nero................no 4x speed. After some 40 minutes it finished only not to play on the Plextor. Any ideas of what I might to next time would be greatly appreciated.

I have had great service from COMPUPLUS.COM
I don't have a choice in shipping like most of you have different options. I'm here in Hawaii so the shipping cost for us is outrageous. Companies like M.wave.com, newegg, computergate.com they all ship here 2day fed express, ups or airborne express. We don't have a choice to ship it ground shipping. Odd though cuz I shipped a DVD player back to California via ground shipping with UPS.
Purchasing PLEXTOR products from COMPUPLUS including shipping is still cheaper for me compared to the computer shops here that sell PLEXTOR products. They jack up the prices!!
I just checked newegg the total would end up at $258.09 compared to COMPUPLUS total would be $254.40, so I would be saving $3.69. I'm a tightwad every penny counts!!!! LOL!!!!!
I'm gonna wait a little longer before I purchase the PLEXTOR DUAL DVD BURNER. Maybe the prices may go down in the next few months!!
