I've downloaded the trial version with the mpeg2 plugin. I really like this program for the ken burns effect. Very easy to use and I like the fact that I can use tmpeg to encode. Here my problem and question. Is there anyway to encode to .avi from this program. Tech support will not help until you buy. I do not want to buy unless I can output to .avi in any way. If I can't does anyone have any other suggestions I've tried using tmpeg to out to .avi from the mpeg2 but you lose quality. I use pinnacle studio 7.0 to edit and it will no import mpegs. I'm still playing with the program to figure out what I can do as I really like the control Memories gives you. Any help is welcome.

I did it and it looked fine. let memories produce the elemental streams (m2v and mp2, I think.). I then muxed them w/ ][muxer (did a nice job at that) available in the tools section, then rendered them to avi in vegas 4.0. I also have s8 and it took the muxed files no problem - maybe if you do that it will import (not sure about v7). I then printed my avi back to tape b/c one person I wanted to give the slide show to doesn't have dvd (oh the horror!). I didn't see any degration in quality going from mpeg back to avi (vegas uses mainconcept encoder).

by the way, I added a comment to the tools section about memories - I thought it did a really slick job. It's authoring tool is very basic so you may choose to use something else (which it sounds like you are trying).

good luck - pls. post how things work out on this..!

Very early this am, about 1:30, oh the fun of experiements. I created the m2v and mp2 with memoried then mux with Tmpegenc+. The Mpeg file looks very good. I then imported the mpeg into Movie Maker 2 and Exported as a DV AVI. Then I had to convert avi from type1 to type2 and import into studio 7.0. Remade the avi and sent to Tmpecenc to remake the mepg2. I will work, however it is just alot of steps. The problem only comes in if I want stills with the burns effect in the same time line as a video, say video-stills-video, and want the same song playing thru. It just seems it would be eaiser for memories to make a plug-in or allow you to use your DV AVI codec to make an avi. Studio 8.0 will import mpegs however Studio 7.0 will not. I'm leary about upgrading because I got 7 working flawlessly and don't want an upgrade nightmare. I will play somemore and let you know. I have a friend that has priemere and I know you can do this with image effects. Maybe I'll give that a try as well.

Been using Mem to TV for about a month now. Another option is to use Vdub-Mpeg. You can input your MPG or M2V file and then export using whatever codecs your system has installed. I use the MainConcept DV codec. Or you can use the Huffy codec.

A problem in doing this is that you lose quality--not so much, during normal playback--but in the event you "pause"--the image really deteriorates with lots of jagged lines. One of the great things about the output from from Mem to TV, is that you can pause and the image actually looks somewhat "better" than during normal playback--great for slideshows. I discovered that whenTmpgenc encodes, the output is progressive, not interlaced, which accounts for the lack of "jaggies" when paused.

Right now I'm trying to find a good way of combining the output of Mem to TV with other video encoded material. Although you can encode your AVI files within Mem to TV, you can't change the encoder settings, which generally means poor quality MPGs from my DV. Nothings easy.
