  1. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND ANY INSTRUCTIONS FOR BURNING DIVX CD'S, OR I MAY NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT'S PRESENTED. I WANT TO BURN DOWNLOADED VIDEO CLIPS TO CD'S, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO FIT A 100,000KB CLIP ONTO ONE CD--IS THIS POSSIBLE, OR JUST A PIPE DREAM?

Burn a DivX as data-CD or convert the DivX to MPEG and burn it as (S)VCD. Have a look at the "how to.." section and don't type in caps!

  3. sorry about the 'shouting'--i forgot. thank you for the instructions, but i'm afraid that i'm too inexperienced to really understand them; i looked at the 'how-to' section both before and after you instructed me to. i didn't see or didn't recognize instructions for burning a divx file as a .dat/data file. i hope that you have enough patience to help me further, or can direct me to beginner instructions.
    thank you, again

  4. k i'll help:

first, get some .avi files (i like downloading movies in that format. divx files are .avi, just to let ya know

second, get tmpgenc off of this site and use the faq from the converting section of this site. u may have to play around with it for a while to get it to work.

third, after you have your .mpg file, use the burning utility on you comp to put it on a VCD. It has to be on a vcd to play on a dvd, do not get VCD confused with Data cd. now, if your comp doesn't have a burning util. with VCD support, then your pretty much screwed for the moment. u can try to download a burner program, just not adaptec, they suck!!! then use one of the guides also on this web page to burn it.

also, make sure your dvd supports vcd's, and u may wanna be sure that when you convert, its in a NTSC format.

k hope that helped, feel free to ask some more ???'s.

  5. thanks flash.
i don't think that i'm confusing .dat/data files with divx files. it's just that in the response that i got from truman, he indicates that it is possible to burn a divx file as a .dat/data file, so i was going to try that way first if i could get instructions as to how to do it.
i already have a ton of .avi files--that's why i'd like to burn cd's--they're taking up gigs of space on my hardrive and i'd like to copy them before deleting from hard drive.
as to the method which requires me to convert the files to mpeg--won't that make the files too large to fit on a cd? (does a mb=1000 kbs?) i do have the tmpgenc program, and i have both nero and easycreate deluxe--so i think i've got the tools--now i need the 'know-how'. any help is greatly appreciated.

  6. aright, well......<cough> you have nero. thats all you need. and yes, GB=1000KB. so if these files are larger than that amount, download a program that allows you to snip the .avi in half. don't ask me how, i've never done it, i'm sure u can find a program and a guide on this site.

  8. ok, thanx--but is if a GB=1000 KB, then what does an MB=...500 KB?
