  1. DV uses direct show codec and won't load into Virtual Dub unless I render to uncompressed or another avi codec. (loss of quality) I want to try out that deshaker plug-in.

Ok now......... what do you want to do with the video ultimately? Convert to mpeg and place on DVD?

  3. Yes, I have some home movies that could end up on DVD if it looks good enough. I am trying out the Deshake filter as I write this on another machine. I rendered out my DV footage as uncompressed so Virtual Dub would see it. This should be interesting.

Oh ... :cO I was going to tell you there is a sort of shortcut way.

IF you have or get tempgenc and have a lot of spare time tonight :c) investigate and read up on frameserving.

You can skip the interim step by sending the avi being filtered straight to tempgenc for conversion to mpeg (DVD ready) video.

If you can't read it with Vdub, you can't frameserve it

Maybe you want to get the free Panasonic DV codec.

I meant BEFORE he then resaves to yet another avi then again out to mpeg - wiseguy! :cD

If he'd not rushed off, I was going to deal with the other issue. :c)

  7. Thanks, I do have TMPGenc 2.58 and I just fininshed my test with Virtual dub and the Deshaker plug-in using uncompressed footage. It's kinda weird but it does work.

Yeah. :c) It's amazing it can do it at all, but most times it's a huge improvement.

If you see above Foo's mentioned you need a DV codec to open in Vdub.

For future reference, I guess, since you have already done it the other way.

But now - if you want, you can read up on frameserving to avoid making another avi file and then converting that. :c)

Look under Virtualdub Guides and Frameserve to Tempgenc. Saves loads of time and disc space.
