Sound problem when converting from SVCD to DVD!

Hi,

I am trying to convert a SVCD to a DVD. Everything works fine so far, but I have a problem with the sound.

The sound on the SVCD is 44100 khz so I have to convert it to 48000 khz to get a proper DVD.

I have used DVD-lab to resample the sound and when I play the .mpa sound file then for example in Windows Media Player it sounds great. But when I authore a new DVD with this file (have tried IfoEdit and DVD-lab) the sound is horrible. Sounds somewhat like a very bad radio recording with lots of crackeling noises and some kind of echo.

I also have tried BeSweet and TMPGenc to resample the sound, with the same result.

Any help would be very much apricciated.

What I seem to be finding is if you are using MPEG as your only audio track, the volume level must not approach the maximum point. This does not seem to be a problem when playing on a PC, but on my standalone player the audio is very loud and distorted.

What I had to do is to normalize the volume level to -4dB of maximum (around 60%). Then it sounds fine on my TV.
