I have found that using ASF tools to convert ASF files to AVI files I can get the resulting AVI to play (AND ONLY PLAY) in TMPGEnc. Where I turn them in to VCD complient MPEG's

But, that only works for the video, there is no audio.

While on page 2 of the Wizzard the video file appears, the line for the Audio file is empty.

Is there a way to also play/convert ASF files with both audio and video

I have tried playing either the orginal ASF or coverted AVI file other applications, but, all I get the "cause fault window."

    Strange ??

I've used ASFTools to convert video files, and its done the audio no problems, check the settings, it should have no problems in converting an ASF file to an AVI file with audio

I dont know if this works or not...but I remember someone suggesting this once. Go to Windows Movie Maker, open the file there, and then save it as WMV and then encode. Again, dont know for sure.

    I will try that

FYI, I tried EO Video, which has been mention in this forum, to convert ASF to AVI/MPEG

While it save some steps, I still get a video with-out audio.

Could it be that the video (Mexican commericals about the end of the orginal VW Bug) have no audio.

I am going to try to get a ASF file with audio to see if that is the case.

    Will report back .

The problem in getting both the video and audio to play from a ASF file has been answerd

I downloaded another ASF file, and using EO VIDEO, I got it to play ASF files with both audio AND Video

And covert/merge them into one MPEG 1 file.

However, the resulting production is very "blockly."

Is that a usual problem with ASF files

Or (I used VCD bitrate/size/frame numbers) did the conversion went wrong

Yet, to be honest, even the non converted ASF file was not all that clear
