  1. I'd like to have more freedom when it comes to making menus for my VCDs and SVCDs. NeroVision Express is way too limited in its functionality. Could someone suggest a program with a very open-ended menu creation system?

Try this chart that Baldrick's developing: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdauthorcomparison.php

It may not be 100% complete, but will give you a good idea. :c)
    There's no place like 127.0.0.1

  3. For VCD/CVD/SVCD you're really limited because those formats do not support true menus. But if you get really creative you can do some pretty cool things. Ultimately VCDImager is the way to go. But because it's a command line program most people perfer to use a GUI for it: VCD Easy and TSCV are two popular ones. VCDEasy I think just went from freeware to shareware (but older freeware verisons should be out there) and TSCV hasn't been supported for more than a year.

Here's an excellent guide for VCDEasy:

it's for DVD -> SVCD but the the basics are the same. TSCV is a little harder to finda good guide for but look to the left and at http://www.doom9.org I once made: intro clip, main menu, a 'matrix like motion chapter menu', ester eggs, etc. etc. xSVCD of the Duality clip. Took a long time to learn how but cool once you figure it all out. Luck
